Halo is one of the best known video game franchises out there, gaining a huge number of fans all over the world thanks to the critically acclaimed first-person shooter series made by development studio Bungie.

This great success has prompted Microsoft to take over the rights to the franchise and extend it to other mediums. We've seen book and graphic novels regarding the universe of Halo and the eternal fight between the USNC and the alien Covenant, and we will also get to watch a series of anime shorts, thanks to the Halo Legends project.

But one medium that has eluded the large corporation and its big money-making franchise is the movie business. That isn't the result of lack of trying, though, as it was in talks with both Peter Jackson and Neil Blomkamp in order to create a flick based on the famous universe.

Now, according to film site IESB, talent agency CAA and various “studio executives,” it seems that another Halo movie might be produced by none other than Steven Spielberg. IESb has revealed that Spielberg has been “blown away” by the screenplay made by Stuart Beattie, tracking the evolution of Master Chief, the main character of the first three Halo shooters.

The speculation seems to hold ground as the movie site has also revealed that Dreamworks, after having lost the Transformers series following splitting its distribution deal with Paramount, is looking for a brand new blockbuster action franchise.

CAA talent agency is currently listing Spielberg as being a director engaged in “active negotiations” in order to produce the movie. He would seem to occupy the same position as he did with the Transformers movie, meaning that it might have a different producer.

Hopefully, we will have concrete evidence in the near future from either Microsoft or Spielberg himself.
