Steven Spielberg has hired Eyal Arad, none other than the public relations consultant of the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon, to promote his latest film "Munich".
The movie is due to be released on December 23 in the United States and on January 26 in Israel. But, even though it has not opened yet, the film has already received
criticism from many Israelis.
Therefore, choosing Eyal Arad to promote "Munich" in Israel is a strategic move from Mr. Spielberg.
Mr. Arad declared for Reuters that Israel was an important market for the film:
"We are talking about a film that has generated a lot of interest here, and naturally that sort of interest can entail some negative reactions as well as positive reactions."
The PR specialist has already organized a screening in Tel Aviv for the widows of two of the 11 athletes who died. Afterwards, Ilana Romano, whose husband (a weightlifter) was the first one to be killed in Munich, spoke in favor of the film:
"For me, it was important that the film does no dishonor to the memory of the murdered athletes, or to the image of the state of Israel. Both my criteria were satisfied."
