Steven Seagal has moved from playing a crime-fighter to actually being one again. Starting a couple of days ago, the Hollywood action hero is a Texas border patrol deputy and will start on his new job in a couple of months.

A short while ago, Seagal went on the record saying that he’d love to be a border patrol deputy and that he was actually considering applying for the job, The Hollywood Reporter informs.

Hearing this, the Hudspeth County Sheriff department had two people traveling to Los Angeles to see whether he was just joking about it or really series.

It turns out it was the latter. Consequently, Seagal will soon be patrolling the Mexico-Texas border to keep illegal aliens from crossing it.

“Seagal was sworn-in as the Hudspeth County Sheriff department’s newest deputy sheriff,” THR reports.

“The West Texas town is only a two-and-a-half hour drive from Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. The law department is responsible for patrolling a 98-mile stretch of the Texas-Mexico border,” adds the same publication.

Contrary to what skeptics might think, this is not just a publicity stunt and it’s definitely not “for show” for the cameras. Seagal is only trying to be a good American citizen and help the best way he can.

“It became very clear to me that Mr. Seagal is not in this for the celebrity or the publicity. He’s like the rest of us that live down here, he has a sincere passion for his country and he wants to do more to help,” Sheriff Arvin West says, as cited by THR.

As for talk that Seagal might have taken up the job to shoot another reality show, that too is false.

“The television aspect of what we're doing here is the last priority. The man has a pure motive in doing this. He knows what we’re up against here and he wants to help,” a spokesperson for the sheriff’s department stresses.
