It looks like it's getting increasingly fashionable for movie stars to help out animals in need whenever they take a break from filming. Earlier this months, actor Kellan Lutz visited a no-kill shelter in Bulgaria and, just days ago, Steven Seagal embarked on a similar adventure in Romania.

The actor is said to have visited a local shelter in Bucharest this past weekend. While at the shelter, he met a 7-month-old pup named Grivei and decided to formally adopt him.

This means that, from now on, the actor will willingly part with $18 a month (€13.31). The money will be sent to the animal shelter, and will be used to ensure that Grivei is well taken care of, Ecorazzi reports.

Presently, Bucharest is home to about 64,000 stray pooches. After a 4-year-old boy was attacked and killed by a street dog, the country's high officials passed a law saying that it was OK to put stray dogs to sleep.

Animal rights activists are doing their best to save them, but lack sufficient funding to keep shelters up and running on the long run. They ask that people donate, and help them protect these pooches.

Steven Seagal hopes that, now that he has formally adopted Grivei, others will follow in his footsteps and offer their support to animal shelters in Bucharest, maybe even in other parts of the country.

“I am doing the best I can to bring awareness so that we can make sure these accidents and tragedies don’t happen again,” the actor reportedly told the press.

Steven Seagal is presently in Romania working on his latest film, i.e. “A Good Man.”
