14 DAY TRIAL // The other night at the 2013 Governors Awards, held by the AMPAS at the Ray Dolby Ballroom of the Hollywood and Highland Center, several huge names in film were honored for their life’s work with Honorary Oscars.
Steve Martin was but one of them but his speech was so funny and emotional that I just felt the need to share it with you.
The Governors Awards mark the kickoff of the awards season, which will culminate with the Academy Awards aka the Oscars in February 2014, also held by the AMPAS.
Martin was presented with an Honorary Oscar by Tom Hanks, which you can see in the video above, couldn’t help himself from geeking out over sharing the same stage with an icon, and snapped a selfie to be able to boast of having been part of this momentous occasion.
Steve Martin’s speech was incredibly funny and warm and, towards the end, incredibly emotional as well.
“I knew I wasn’t going to make it through this speech, I read it to my dog this morning and wept,” he joked, as he was trying to fight back the tears that welled up in his eyes when he got to the part where he was thanking his wife.
