Actor and singer Steve Martin is getting ready for heavy diaper duty at an age when, some might argue, other men are already granddads. Martin and wife Anne Stringfield have just welcomed their first child together.

Word of this broke in Page Six as a rumor, with insiders saying that the star and his 41-year-old wife had become parents last December, but had struggled hard to keep it a secret – meaning, out of the pages of the tabloids.

“They’ve had a baby, and how they kept it a secret nobody knows. Steve’s very private. They are thrilled. They worked hard to have the baby,” one source said.

Indeed, Martin is one of the most private celebrities out there, even if he has a Twitter and is very active on it.

After word of this got out, a publicist confirmed the happy news for Us Weekly: Martin is a first-time dad at 67.

“We can confirm that Steve Martin and his wife are new parents and recently welcomed a child,” says the rep, refusing to offer more details.

However, had fans been paying attention to the same Twitter page referenced above, they would have been able to read the clues, the same celebrity publication points out: Martin had been dropping hints about the new addition to the family for the past several weeks.

“A resolutely private star, Martin made extremely cryptic potential references to his bundle of joy to his 3.7 million followers on Twitter over the past few days,” Us notes.

“‘My recent dada Tweet was admired by the artistic community,’ he wrote Feb. 11, also nodding to the quirky art movement. Slightly more telling? The tweet which read ‘Coo coo, cutsy wootsy, footsy pie’,” the same media outlet writes, citing from Martin’s Twitter.

Congratulations are definitely in order for new dad and mom!
