The 2001 comedy has become a cult hit in the meantime

Finally, a sequel worth your time! It's the news you have been waiting for for 13 years, ever since the first “Super Troopers” came out with a bunch of laughs and memorable phrases, most of which have since reached cult status.

Us Weekly had a sit down with Steve Lemme, one of the original actors in the first movie and one of the members of Broken Lizard, the studio which made the film, and it seems that, after years of talks and negotiations, and even a lawsuit, there is now a sequel in the works. And we're not calling shenanigans either!

The sequel was delayed by legal disputes and negotiations

“You know, it was a combination of having to settle some of the legal disputes about making a sequel, while also negotiating terms for it,” Lemme explains pointing out to the delay.

“The fans have been asking for it for a while, but we were finally able to package everything together. Fox is going to distribute the film, but we needed to raise the money for it, with a minimum budget of $27 million (€21 million), which we've just about raised. There may be a Kickstarter launched to raise the last little bit,” he also adds.

The big question now is what this next film is going to be about. Lemme would like to give you some incentives, but he's not giving anything away just yet. He does admit that it's “one of the more unique and interesting stories I've seen in a while” and he also reveals that things are going to pick up where they've left off.

The hardest thing to write was a new opening sequence since the last one was so awesome

He claims that, ironically, the hardest thing was coming up with an opening sequence that was good enough to rival with the first movie. All is sure is that the actors who appeared in the first one are making a comeback as the Vermont State troopers, patrolling Canada's border – Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Erik Stolhanske, Paul Soter and Steve Lemme, of course.

As an added bonus, the famous mustaches are coming back too, “Everybody who had a mustache in the first one will grow it back," said Lemme. "Now the guys who didn't grow mustaches for the first one want to have a mustache. We're making them earn it, not sure how we'll haze them, but they better be prepared.”

The film is said to start shooting at the beginning of next year, which means that pre-production will be completed by early 2016, which is when we hope to see the boys back on the screen.

If you haven't seen “Super Troopers” yet, you should go watch it right away. Seriously. Go. Now!
