Apple might attend next year's Consumer Electronics Show, a recent article from The Wall Street Journal shows. Moreover, it seems that the company's chief executive officer, Steve Jobs, has been asked to keynote the CES 2010 show in January. Although Jobs hasn't responded to the request yet, apparently the company could be present on the expo's floor.

Up until now, Apple wasn't too keen on being present at CES; it rather avoided the show, mainly due to the fact that the Macworld Expo was running either at or around the same time. Apple's presence at the world's definitive home electronics event might also be suggested by the fact that the company has ended Macworld Expo as of this year.

At the same time, it seems that the tightening competition between Apple and it rivals might also have something to do with the move. In case it decides to come to the event, it would be the first time for the company. Gary Shapiro, chief executive of the Consumer Electronics Association, is the one to have asked Apple's CEO Steve Jobs to keynote the show.

WSJ also points out that Apple hasn't returned any calls to Shapiro: “This isn’t the first time he’s contacted Jobs and not gotten a response, he said. The journalists at the table took note of a fellow traveler in their midst – Jobs provides very few interviews. ‘I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one in that position’, Shapiro then said.”

Even if Apple comes to the show, there are no details on what its presence there might imply. It's a common fact that the company hasn't unveiled plans in advance for its own special events either, nor info on whether one of the company's executives would deliver a keynote. However, in case the company unveils a new product, it might get launched very soon after that, notes AppleInsider, unlike products from other companies, which are launched several months after the show.
