A longtime Apple fan from Sweden has contacted Apple’s Chief Executive Officer via email with a question regarding the iPad’s tethering capabilities. Particularly, the Swede wanted to know whether the upcoming tablet would support tethering through his iPhone. Jobs’ answer was extremely concise, in a manner very typical to Apple’s CEO.

Below is Jezper’s email to Steve Jobs, reproduced in its entirety as posted over at 9to5mac.

I'll keep it short.

I'm Jezper from Sweden, a long time Apple fan, currently about to replace the very last computer at home with a brand spanking new iMac i7. I'm also awaiting the release of the iPad. However, I have one question:

Will the wifi-only version somehow support tethering thru my iPhone?

Two devices, based on the same OS, with already built-in technology to share one data plan suggests a secondary contract could possibly be redundant.

From the look of your keynote, where the iPad sits well between my MacBook Pro and my iPhone, I was hoping the three of them could interact as seamless as possible.

All the best, Jezper Söderlund[a famous DJ in his own right].

And now for Mr. Jobs’ answer...

No.

Sent from my iPhone.

9to5mac claims to have also obtained header information from the email to prove its veracity. It reveals that Steve Jobs still hasn’t updated his iPhone to the latest version of its underlying software.

In related news, Apple has confirmed the official launch date for the iPad in the US and several other territories around the world. Available on April 3 in the US, the WiFi-only model will retail for $499 with 16GB of storage. The same iPad will ship in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, and Switzerland and the UK in late April, at which point, the Wi-Fi + 3G models will begin shipping in the US.
