A couple of Steve Jobs stories caught our eye today, one of which says Apple’s CEO is not running the latest version of the iPhone OS. According to information extracted from an email reply signed Steve Jobs, the Jim Henson Celebration honoree is still rocking OS 3.1.2.

A 9to5Mac report citing Mike from Macsoda says, “The email looks legit as it originates from an internal Apple 17.x.x.x IP address. But then we noticed something kind of funny. Steve Jobs' iPhone is listed as iPhone Mail (7D11) which means he's on 3.1.2.” “That's not even the current version of the iPhone OS (3.1.3 - 7E18), let alone the 4.0Beta we're were hoping to see,” it adds, and then shows the image / screenshot available to the left. Since iPhone OS 3.1.3 basically only addresses battery issues on the 3GS model, we may assume Apple’s CEO has been having no issues in this area. How does he do it?

In other Steve Jobs news, Rolling Stone informs that Steve Jobs decided to personally call up the winner of Apple’s latest iTunes contest (10 Billion Song Downloads) and break the news to him. Residing in Woodstock, Georgia, Louie Sulcer was skeptical when Jobs called him up, telling Rolling Stone, “He called me and said, ‘This is Steve Jobs from Apple.’ I said, ‘Yeah right,’ I have a son that loves to play tricks and he does that every now and then — calls me and imitates somebody.”

Sulcer continued to ask, “Come on now, who is this,” until he finally realized that his caller ID read simply “Apple.” According to the news source, “Only then did he believe that he was the winner of the contest and a $10,000 iTunes card.” Ironically, his winning purchase was Johnny Cash’s “Guess Things Happen That Way,” which Sulcer downloaded for a mix he was about to do for his son. At the time of the purchase, he was not even aware that Apple was having a contest.
