14 DAY TRIAL // According to the State of California's unclaimed property search website, Steven P. Jobs has unclaimed property to collect. The astronomical $37.91 includes wages at Apple, IBM shares, and even some $0.20 worth of dividends from Time Warner. Unclaimed annuity and insurance checks also account for the rather insignificant sum of cash Jobs is yet to claim.
This information is made available to the public thanks to California's Unclaimed Property Law, which "requires corporations, businesses, associations, financial institutions, and insurance companies to annually report and deliver property to the California State Controller's Office after there has been no activity on the account or contact with the owner for a period of time specified in the law - generally three years or more."
The document in question addresses the Chief Executive Officer of Apple, saying that “According to our records, you may be entitled to the money, property, or proceeds from any sale of the property listed above.
“If you are claiming this property or the proceeds, you must complete Steps 1-3,” the document adds in red print.
“Please note: If you are claiming multiple properties, you may file one Claim Affirmation For and attach a copy of the Property Details screen for each additional property you are claiming. If there are multiple owners for any property, each owner must either sign the Claim Affirmation For or file a separate Claim Affirmation Form to receive their share of the property.”
In other words, Jobs only needs to file paperwork with the state, in order to claim his property.
The “papers,” however, are available online, which makes it even easier for the billionaire to get his hands on an additional 38 bucks.
Jobs surely isn’t in a rush to collect it any time soon, but we dare entice the CEO to do it, by recommending that he spend it on two brand new Mock Turtlenecks ($15 a piece), and give away the remaining $8 to a beggar.
