Sales of the Surface RT are rather modest, Microsoft’s CEO Steve Ballmer said in an interview with French publication LeParisien, but that’s not at all a problem because the Surface Pro is expected to register record sales.

Ballmer explained that Surface Pro, the much more powerful version of the tablet that will actually run Windows 8 Pro and will support legacy Windows applications, is the tablet everyone is waiting for at this point, so record sales are just a matter of time.

He said the Surface Pro is going to be a “unique” device, but that’s not surprising at all, we’d say. It’ll actually be the first tablet in the world running a full-featured operating system and 32- and 64-bit apps.

In addition, he confirmed that the upcoming device would rely on a new Intel processor and a higher screen resolution, two features that could indeed turn it into a real iPad killer.
