Horror novelist Stephen King is auctioning a name in his forthcoming novel Cell (which must be female if it is to be killed off).

"Buyer should be aware that 'CELL' is a violent piece of work, which comes complete with zombies set in motion by bad cell phone signals that destroy the human brain," King said.

John Grisham is another author who will give the readers a chance to have a character in his next book, but this time, portrayed in "a good light", according to BBC.

Money raised by the Ebay sale between September 1 and September 25, will be donated to the First Amendment Project, a California-based nonprofit group that promotes freedom of information and expression.

"My job is to put out the most conservative estimate and we're hoping to raise somewhere between $40,000 and $50,000 between the 16 authors," David Greene of the First Amendment Project told Reuters.
