71-year-old Stephen Hawking has recently drawn attention to the fact that, from where he stands, humanity has about 1,000 years at its disposal before our dear old Earth can no longer meet our demands and forces us into extinction.

According to the British physicist, there is only one other option: colonizing other planets and biding this one its eternal farewell. Sources say that Stephen Hawking's exact statements on the matter at hand, which were made at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, were as follows:

“We must continue to go into space for humanity. If you understand how the universe operates, you control it in a way.”

“We won't survive another 1,000 years without escaping our fragile planet,” the physicist reportedly went on to argue.

Here's hoping that scientists will give due consideration to these warnings and hurry in rolling out space colonies.
