Lorna Elizabeth Tuck Colbert, the mother of Stephen Colbert, died this past Wednesday at the age of 92. She is survived by 8 children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Lorna Elizabeth Tuck Colbert gave birth to 11 children, yet three of them unfortunately passed away during her lifetime.

Two died together with her husband in 1974, when Eastern Air Lines Flight 212 crashed while attempting to land in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Lorna's obituary describes her as “the matriarch of a family of 82,” and “an accomplished artist, a church leader, a businesswoman, a supporter of the arts and a woman whose profound faith was apparent in her daily life,” HuffPost reports.

The same source informs us that Lorna first started feeling ill in February. At that time, Stephen Colbert suspended his show and the network announced that they would be airing repeat episodes for a while.

The family asks that, rather than sending flowers, those who wish to offer their condolences make donations to the Medical University of South Carolina Foundation.
