Yesterday saw the release of the first official “Star Wars: Episode VII” photo, when the full principal cast was announced. After so many months after Disney’s purchase of the franchise and clearly stated plans for a reboot, this was the first juicy bit of actual information that fans got.

And Stephen Colbert wasn’t happy with it, as he (jokingly) makes it clear in the video embedded below. On the latest Tip of the Hat / Wag of the Finger segment on his Comedy Central show, Colbert had a laugh at the expense of all those fans unhappy with the first round of “Star Wars” news.

First off, he pointed out, the return of the three members of the original cast, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill, would make it possible for Disney to name the installment “Episode VII: A New Hip.”

Secondly, that first photo, of the cast and director J.J. Abrams doing a table read, was wrong for a variety of reasons.

“I mean, look at this photo, everything is wrong! Where is the creature design? Every single character is humanoid with two arms and two legs? And those love seats are clearly not canon, those are tatooine battle couches! Have these people even heard of the holocron continuity database? I don't think so!” Colbert said by means of an explanation for why he’s giving Abrams a wag of the finger because he “blew it.”

Of course, Colbert is only joking but there are plenty of fans who felt cheated by yesterday’s huge announcement. The film doesn’t come out until December 2015, so they should probably not fret too much because there is plenty of time for Disney to right whatever perceived wrong.
