If there is any gizmo that qualifies as unusual, the new pair of glasses that SteelSeries and Gunnar made are probably it, being a special pair for non-3D screens. People probably haven't heard about many tech glasses that aren't meant for 3D, but SteelSeries and GUNNAR just collaborated on making a pair.
Basically, the two built the Desmo, which is supposed to boost visual efficiency, endurance and recovery of gamers.
The goal is to allow people to spend more hours than they would otherwise manage in front of a computer when playing something, like MMO raids and such, which tend to last hours into the night.
The two pairs, for two were made, are identical in all respects, save the color of the rims (semi-rims anyway).
The Desmo Snow (limited edition) is obviously white, while the Desmo Onyx have the expected black rims.
"SteelSeries is a fantastic partner,"
said Rob Aarnes, president of GUNNAR. "They've pushed us to the next level in our joint design of the SteelSeries Desmo and we are proud to put the eyewear into our Advanced Gaming Eyewear Collection. We expect it to be an immediate success as we roll it out to the market."
The assets of the glasses, as the press release puts it (in addition to what was mentioned above), are a wide field of vision, minimum peripheral distraction and flexible twin-rail temples (make the glasses comfortable beneath a
headset).
They should work fine for anyone with 20/20 vision, or people who use corrective contact lenses.
The lens are made of an optically pure, proprietary material, while an anti-reflective coating reduces glare and other distortions.
"When we started on this new design, it was important that it was more than just lightweight and comfortable, but that the lens shape, frame style and temples were chosen and perfected in order to impact and improve the way players saw their game,” said Bruce Hawver, SteelSeries CEO.
“We believe we’ve achieved that goal with the Desmo and are excited for players to try it out.”
