There's a lot of commotion going on in the Amazon basin these days, and it's not because forest creatures are staging a protest against fossil fuels, deforestation and all sorts of other environmental issues that directly affect them.

In a nutshell, all this commotion is caused by a group of workers who are now busy erecting an observation tower smack at the core of the Amazon, at a distance of about 170 kilometers (105 miles) from the city of Manaus.

According to NAM News Network, the material of choice for the construction of this observation tower is steel. When completed, the structure will measure about 325 meters (1,066 feet) in height, and will join several other similar but smaller towers in the region.

In case anyone was wondering (and chances are that many of you were), this observation tower is not intended to help researchers stalk wild animals in the area. On the contrary, it will serve to monitor climate change and global warming.

Thus, information shared with the public by the people behind this project says that tower will be fitted with several instruments that will make it possible for it to collect data concerning local greenhouse gases, aerosol particles and weather conditions.
