Romanian champions Steaua Bucharest lost their League One shocker against city rivals Dinamo yesterday night. The team that managed to beat Dynamo Kiev last Wednesday 4-1 only managed one point from their last 2 encounters inside Romania's domestic league. They previously drew 1-1 at home to UEFA quarterfinalists Rapid Bucharest.

The match started off well for the home side, who managed to keep the ball more than Steaua. Still, only Niculescu managed to pressure Carlos' post in the first 30 minutes, with a powerful header just wide. Steaua had to play their 2nd match in 3 days with only
ten men on the pitch, when Cyril Thereau received a red card for pushing one of his opponents in the 35th minute.

The clash failed to produce a great spectacle on the pitch. Even 11 on 10, Dinamo did not pressure Carlos' post that much. The only great scoring chance came from substitute Ganea late in the second half, when he headed a cross from George Blay just wide.

The referee made another huge mistake in the 88th minute, when he eliminated another Steaua footballer, Banel Nicolita. The midfielder was sent off after entering the pitch - he was previously nursed from an injury - without the referee's permission.

The late goal from Dinamo came in the injury time, when former Steaua striker Denis Serban dribbled through the visitors' defense and scored the winner. It was an impressive goal for the man who played for 10 different teams before coming back to Dinamo.

Dinamo's coach Mircea Rednic was very happy for the win, since it was his first against Steaua as a head coach: "I'm so happy to beat Steaua, who are a Champions League team. We showed that Dinamo deserve to play in Champions League, too, next season. We are now on the way to winning the title this year".

On the other hand, Steaua's playmaker and League top-scorer, Nicolae Dica, was very disappointed by the referee and blamed the "whistlers" for the final result: "It's not too difficult to successfully play both in the Champion League and for the title but it's really impossible to fight against the referees. The championship is long, the fight for the title goes on".

Dinamo are now 7 points wide of Steaua in the overall standings, while Cosmin Olaroiu's team dropped to 3rd, after CFR Cluj.
