Developer Image & Form has announced that Steamworld Dig is coming to the eShop on August 28, headed for the Nintendo Wii U home console.

Players take on the role of Rusty, a robot that arrives in an old mining town after inheriting a deed to a mine. The game's goal is to dig and solve puzzles, and platforming comes in for avoiding traps and enemies.

In spite of the fact that speedrunners can finish the game in under 30 minutes, Steamworld Dig has a lot of content to go through. Through mining, players can deconstruct the game world and create their own platforms or get cash back in town, used for various mining tool upgrades.

The Wii U edition of the popular hardcore platforming game will feature 1080p resolution and will run at 60 frames per second, as well as feature full support for off-TV play on the Wii U GamePad. In addition to this, the Wii U Pro Controller is also supported as an input device.

The Swedish platformer is currently available on the Nintendo 3DS, PC, Mac, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita platforms.

Developer Image & Form mentioned a while back that it was working on another game set in the same universe as Steamworld, but that it wouldn't be a sequel to the platformer.

Steamworld Dig is making its debut on the Nintendo Wii U on August 28, going for £7 / €9 / $10.
