Fans of the Steam locomotive and train simulator SteamTRAIN 3 (exclusive to the Mac) now have the chance to upgrade to the latest version and benefit from a number of enhancements aimed at the snow, visibility, traction sand and collision recovery. For those who haven't got a a chance to try out this simulation title, a trial version is also available.

In SteamTRAIN 3 players engineer a vintage train consisting of an engine, tender (coal car) and passenger coaches. As soon as you're done crafting your train, you can take it for a spin using the following controls: throttle, boiler pressure, traction sand, crude brakes, track switches and manual couplers. Your vintage train is made up of a steam locomotive and tender, plus mail, baggage, coach, or freight cars. Naturally, you're the engineer of the train, who has a crew to command in the 1800's era steam train. Your train will travel between stops, up and down grades, negotiate curves, switch tracks, and couple/uncouple cars. At each Terminal, you may rotate your engine on the TurnTable or swap for a different loco in the RoundHouse.

SteamTRAIN has also added a new Weather menu lately, for Snow or clear skies. The latest version however, 3.1, adds even more enhancements. Those include:

- SNOW -- Light or Heavy Depth - Ultimate Nostalgia Experience - Track Visibility Limited - Snow Plowing Forces - Traction Sand Precious - Collision Recovery Improved.

SteamTrain requirements call for an Intel Mac under Rosetta, or a PPC machine running at 600 MHz CPU (minimum), and Video Mem - 16 MB min OpenGL.

SteamTRAIN is available for purchase from Nostalgic Software's page. The game costs $22 to buy. The trial version is available HERE (15 minutes trial; several features are disabled). SteamTRAIN is a Universal Binary, which means both PPC and Intel-based Macs are compatible.
