Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson has talked about Valve's recently confirmed SteamOS operating system, hoping that it will save PC gaming from closed software like Windows 8.

Valve revealed yesterday the SteamOS, a Linux-based operating system that's focused on the Steam digital distribution platform and on gaming as a whole.

The reveal delighted Minecraft creator Markus Persson, who congratulated Valve for "saving the entire gaming world," according to this Twitter.

What's more, he's thrilled with SteamOS as a great alternative to Windows 8.

"Seriously, this overly drawn out SteamBox announcement thing is amazing news. Win8's been worrying me," he added.

Persson has been a strong critic of Microsoft's Windows 8, as he doesn't want the closed operating system to limit the options of PC gamers.

At the same time, however, Persson doesn't want to sell Minecraft via Steam in order to work directly with the players.
