SteamOS, a Debian-based distribution developed by Valve to be used in its hybrid PC / console, has received an important update that should make AMD users very happy.

The third update for SteamOS has arrived and it's mostly here to please the AMD users, which didn't have a very good experience with the Linux-based operating system from Valve.

According to the developers, the Steam controller firmware upgrade process has been fixed, and the AMD Catalyst driver has been upgraded to preview release 13.11 Beta 9.9.

“This update upgrades the Catalyst driver in our repositories with a preview release. This build should fix the poor in-game performance and malfunctioning return to desktop functionality. Known problems include tearing and poor overlay performance in-game; please install them and post your feedback!” said Valve representative Pierre-Loup.

You can download SteamOS 1.0 Beta Build 01.07.14 right now from Softpedia. Keep in mind that this is not a stable release and bugs might still be present.
