This latest Steam update fixes a few important issues

Valve has launched another Beta version for its Steam for Linux client, fixing a few problems and various issues.

After a development version garners sufficient changes, Valve promotes it to stable. The work for the next beta starts almost immediately.

Highlights of the latest Steam for Linux update:

• Steam no longer shows the wrong message "Converting existing game installation...", in the install game dialog; • Multi-pass retry logic has been added for Steam client updating process; • The reliability of Steamworks P2P networking has been improved; • A game update issue, that occurred when an unexpected folder exists in a game install directory, has been fixed.

This is a Beta software and this means that bugs are bound to surface. Download the Steam for Linux installer from Softpedia and join the Beta program in the Settings in order to get access to the latest version.
