Recent figures from the Steam hardware survey show that only 0.44 percent of those who use the Valve digital distribution service actually use the new Windows 8 operating system from Microsoft.

The player base for Steam is over 54 million, which means that just over 237,000 are using the OS.

Those who have responded to the hardware survey might represent a self-selecting sample that has a lower than usual intention to use Windows 8, according to Gamespot cited figures.

Previous figures from the NPD Group have also showed that actual PC sales in the United States have gone down in the month after Windows 8 was officially launched by Microsoft.

Gabe Newell, the leader of Valve, has stated that he sees the OS as a problem for PC gaming and has suggested that his own company might create a gaming focused operating system at some point in the future.

If I total all windows 8 versions I get 4.69% not .44%...
"According to Valve's hardware and software survey for November 2012, just .44 percent of Steam's 50 million members are running Windows 8 32-bit, though a healthier 4.25 percent have the 64-bit version installed"

You can use numbers to make something look bad, (like this article here) or you can use numbers to make something look good (like the article I'm posting below)

"Steam gamers adopting Windows 8 four times faster than general population"

http://microsoft-news.com/steam-gamers-adopting-windows-8-four-times-faster-than-general-population/

It's unjustifiable articles that give Windows 8 a bad name. Windows 8 can do everything Windows 7 can do. Sure, Windows 8 looks different but the capability is still there. Matter of fact, Windows 8 can do more than Windows 7. FACT, not an opinion.

My eyes see 2.4% for 64-bit Win8.

I really don't know why people hate on windows 8. Especially with games;I've seen such an improvement on my own pc. Yeah the start menu is a bit annoying but give it a year or so and I bet you wouldn't trade it for anything else.
