As previously rumored, today, June 19, the Steam Summer Sale of 2014 has kicked off, bringing a series of massive discounts to plenty of popular games, not to mention a fun "summer adventure" for players who craft game badges using the trading cards.

First up, the Steam Summer Sale 2014 is now underway, and the inaugural day brings deep discounts to plenty of impressive games. These are: DayZ, Don't Starve, Dead Rising 3, Democracy 3, Divinity: Original Sin, Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, and XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

Flash sales are also available for Dead Island Riptide, DmC: Devil May Cry, Hotline Miami, and Mirror's Edge.

Steam users can also vote in the traditional Community Choice section of the promotion, but instead of choosing from certain games, they can pick one of two game packs that will see four titles go on sale.

Like with previous sales, a special set of trading cards is now available, in the form of the Summer Adventure ones.

You gain one by crafting a game badge, buying over 10 USD/EUR worth of titles from the store, or by voting three times in the community choice.

Crafting a full set of Summer Adventure cards nets you in-game items for titles like Team Fortress 2, BattleBlock Theater, Loadout, and much more.

Check out all the details on the Steam storefront.
