The development team at Valve in charge of Steam is getting ready to deliver a big update for the profile system of the digital distribution service, designed to launch a new level system, allow gamers to change their backgrounds and introduce the trading card system.

Users on NeoGAF got to experience the overhauled profile system before Valve took it down because it exposed some private information.

It’s unclear when the company will officially implement all the new ideas.

Steam levels will be linked to the badges that players have managed to acquire, each of them adding an amount of experience.

Valve seems interested to enhance the metagaming elements of Steam and it will be interesting to see how the Trading Cards are used to enhance social interaction.

Steam is the biggest digital distribution system on the PC.
