Valve has published the results of the Steam Hardware Survey for January, and they are not at all flattering for the Linux platform.

In all fairness, most of the listed operating systems have registered a drop, with very few exceptions: Windows 8.1 64-bit, MacOS 10.9.1 64-bit, Windows 8.1 32-bit, Linux Mint 16 Petra 64-bit, and Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS 64-bit.

All of the above-mentioned operating systems had a slight increase, but most of the Linux OSes are actually going down. There could be many reasons, but most likely it's just a slow month.

Valve’s release of SteamOS, which is based on Debian, also didn't do any favors to the rest of the distributions. We can only hope that the growth rate will pick up again when the 2014 games start pouring in.
