Steam on Xbox 360 might be possible at least according to a forum section

Massive rumors have appeared over the weekend, as eagle-eyed users of Valve's Steam forums have spotted a new section marked Xbox Support, with many immediately taking this as a confirmation that Valve is going to bring its digital distribution service, or at least its Steamworks system, to the Xbox 360, like it already did with the PlayStation 3.

Valve's Steam service has become quintessential to a variety of games, acting both as piracy protection, but also as a digital distribution service, and, through the Steamworks suite of programs, which include Cloud save-game support, matchmaking or cross-platform play, has attracted many companies, not just game publishers but also hardware manufacturers like Sony.

The Japanese company recently allowed Valve to put Steamworks support into the PlayStation 3 version of Portal 2, allowing consoles owners to interact with PC or Mac users as well as play cooperatively through the dedicated online mode.

Now, many gamers believe Valve is close to bringing the service to the Xbox 360, as a supposedly new section of the Steam forums, called Xbox Support, has been uncovered, via The Sixth Axis.

While neither Valve nor Microsoft have released a statement on the rumor, it's not likely that this Steam, or even Steamworks, might arrive on the Xbox 360, given the harsh policy Microsoft has with its own platform, which is drawing in a lot of criticism from rivals, like Sony.

Valve emphasized its desire to bring Steamworks support to the Xbox 360 multiple times, even hoping that the upcoming Counter-Strike: Global Offensive might persuade Microsoft, but the console manufacturer has yet to consider this, at least in the open.

Also, before others start jumping to conclusions, it's quite possible that the Xbox Support section was just something made for Valve's Xbox 360 games or for those who are using the Xbox controller for PC games.

What say you, Xbox 360 owners? Would you like Steamworks support for games like the new Counter-Strike to be included on your console or is Xbox Live enough?
