Valve has just rolled out the Steam Discovery update for its digital distribution service, bringing forth a revamped storefront that should be customized depending on the tastes and preferences of each of the 100 million unique users.

Steam is the biggest digital distribution platform currently available across PC, Mac, and Linux, and Valve has made sure to grow its popularity by running all sorts of different sales, seasonal events, and many deals that kept users coming back to it.

In terms of design, however, Steam has stayed the same for quite some time, leading many to criticize Valve for its lack of love in terms of the storefront view, the design of the client, and the way games are presented.

The Steam Discovery update is now available to everyone

In order to remedy this, Valve has just rolled out an updated storefront that's called Discovery and that should help the over 100 million active users comb through the 3,700+ games available via Steam.

"Valve today launched the Steam Discovery Update, which introduces new functionality and features designed to optimize the Steam shopping experience as the number of new titles on Steam increases," the company says on the official website.

"In the past nine months, Steam has added over 1,300 new titles and grown to over 100 million active accounts. Designed to meet the demands of this growth, the Steam Discovery Update delivers a smarter Home page, offering recommendations based on past purchases, recent playtime, and recommendations by friends."

Steam search is better and Curators are available

What's more, the Steam search function has been improved with lots of detailed filters, while players looking for recommendations from certain groups can visit the Curators page and pick from sets of recommendations from different media outlets and representatives.

"We have made great efforts to increase the number of titles we can publish on Steam, which means more choices for customers," says Alden Kroll of Valve. "This update introduces multiple features and functionality to help customers explore Steam’s growing catalog and find the games they are most interested in playing."

Steam has also got updated statistics

Besides revealing all the new features, Valve has also taken the time to confirm that Steam is now the leading online platform for games and software on the PC, Mac, and Linux, as over 3,700 titles are available to all the 100 million active accounts.

The Steam Discovery update is now live and all users can visit the updated storefront via the official website or the client application.
