Valve announces that its digital distribution Steam has managed to pass the 7 million concurrent user landmark on December 1, as a bigger than ever number of players logged in so that they could play a game or check out the prices on the Autumn Sale.

The previous peak was registered during January of this year, when the service reached 6.6 million.

On December 1, the most played title on Steam was DOTA 2, the Multiplayer Online Battle Arena title from Valve itself, which attracted around 542,000 gamers at the same time and second place was also captured by a game from the company, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

Football Manager 2013 from Sports Interactive, Civilization V from Firaxis and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim from Bethesda are other popular games on Steam.

It’s interesting to note that the PC-based digital distribution service is breaking records even as gamers should be more preoccupied with the newly launched Xbox One from Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 from Sony.
