Following the conclusion of the big Autumn Sale, the development team working on the Steam digital distribution service at Valve is releasing a big update for the client, designed to introduce new functionality while fixing some problems.

The biggest change is the fact that players can now allow games to download in the background while they are actively engaged with another title, something that was not previously possible.

Download rates have also been improved for some regions, there are changes to the way Big Picture mode for Steam works and the cloud save feature should now work better for big files.

A full list of all the changes introduced by the Steam client update can be found in the official announcement.

Valve is asking users to continue to deliver feedback for the digital distribution service, which saw its biggest number ever of concurrent users on Sunday.
