Gamers might be able to use the new features only via SteamOS

The most recent beta update for the Steam concept from Valve seems to suggest that the company has plans to soon deliver content like movies, TV series, music, and other videos through its digital distribution service.

All these types of content are already available in some limited forms but the new update, as detailed by SteamDB, might mean that the company is looking to expand their importance and to make them as important as video games are at the moment.

The move would make sense given the plans that Valve currently has to move into the living room and compete directly with the Xbox One from Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 from Sony, through both its specialized hardware and the SteamOS concept.

Steam probably wants to seamlessly implement other types of content and needs to create a simple and fast way of switching from video games to other types of content.

The special Steam machines are at the moment set to be launched at some point in 2015 and Valve will also deliver a new controller, with haptic feedback, suited for those gamers who like to play PC-specific titles, like those in the role-playing or the strategy genres.
