Valve has just announced that its Steam service is now providing services to more than 65 million accounts, registering a 30% growth in the last 12 months.

Valve doesn’t usually give any numbers about its business, not more than what can be observed from the monthly statistics. They chose to share a little more information this time, giving us an idea of the size of the Steam platform.

“The main goal of Steam has always been to increase the quality of the user's experience by reducing the distance between content creators and their audience.”

“As the platform grows, our job is to adapt to the changing needs of both the development and user communities. In the coming year, we plan to make perhaps our most significant collaborations with both communities through the Steam Dev Days and the Steam Machines beta,” said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve.

Steam now boasts with over 3,000 games and software titles and over 65 million accounts, which makes it by far the biggest digital platform out there.

It’s unclear how many of these users are employing a Linux platform, but the last hardware survey shows that there are probably around 1% Linux gamers, which translates into 650,000 Linux users.
