It isn't cheap, but it can cope with worse conditions than most displays out there

Stealth.com Inc. (Stealth Computer) has officially introduced the SVM-2150W, a monitor meant for marine, outdoor and transportation applications.

When it comes to working outdoors, a display, and any other consumer electronics device, needs to fit certain criteria, and this extends to more than just sunlight visibility.

Granted, being usable in bright environments is a must, but some other assets are necessary as well.

Stealth Computer knew this when it put together the SVM-2150W, a so-called Marine/All-Weather LCD monitor.

With a diagonal of 21.5 inches, it has a native resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (Full HD) and a very high brightness of 1,000 nits (cd/m2).

To provide perspective, common monitors make do with 250 nits or 300, with more only on high-end panels.

The aspect ratio used is 16:9 and there are front mounted controls for menu, brightness, contrast, night mode, input select, up/down and even picture-in-picture.

Nevertheless, what really makes the newcomer fit for outdoor use is the sealed outer frame/case, compliant with NEMA 4/IP65 specifications. Dirt, humidity and other unfavorable environmental conditions should be easily shrugged off.

"Our SVM-2150W all weather LCD monitor is ideal for use in direct sunlight or high ambient light conditions. Typical applications would be for marine, industrial, security, kiosks, vehicles or outdoor displays," says Stealth CEO Ed Boutilier.

The Stealth Computer SVM-2150W 21.5-inch marine / all weather LCD monitor boasts resistive touch input support and uses USB connectivity to communicate with a computer.

Finally, the product can handle temperatures of -10 to +50C (14 to 122 F) and works with Panel Mounts (Flush Mounts) and VESA 100 mm / 75 mm mounting holes.

The company expects customers to pay $3,195 in exchange for this weatherproof display and input device. That's 2,425 Euro, according to current exchange rates. Go to the official product page to learn all the information currently available.
