There are a couple of computer users out there who aren’t looking for performance and aesthetics when buying a new portable computer system, but rather for the durability factor of said machine. It is this segment that the new NW-2000 Rugged PC from Stealth Computer is addressed to. The new system has been designed to provide the aforementioned users with a rugged notebook PC that can also transform into a rugged Tablet PC, enabling a more versatile computing experience.

“The Stealth NW-2000 Rugged Notebook/tablet is the ideal solution for Government; industrial/commercial customers who are interested in the ability to work in rough environments yet maintain productivity without the risk of data or performance losses,” stated Ed Boutilier, president and CEO of Stealth.com Inc.

Featured with a 13.3-inch LCD panel that can be used in the sunlight, the new rugged Notebook/Tablet PC from Stealth Computer has adopted Intel’s Ultra Low Voltage Core 2 Duo processors, running at speeds of 1.06GHz, combined with up to 4GB of DDR2 memory and integrated Intel graphics. The system is featured with a 160GB shock-mounted HDD with built-in Freefall Sensor for drop protection. Additional features include the spill resistant, LED Backlit keyboard, built-in touch screen with support for both finger and stylus, fingerprint recognition and TPM module for security, wireless 802.11 a/g/n, Bluetooth, Gigabit LAN, GPS receiver support, modem and DVD burner.

Designed to meet the Military Standard MIL-810F specifications for shock and vibration, the new NW-2000 has been fitted with a battery that is said to be capable of providing the end-user with as much as 6 hours of runtime. The PC comes with a choice for a Windows XP or Vista operating system and weighs in at a little more than 9 pounds (4.1kg). Price wise, the new notebook starts at US$4,895, but can go higher, depending on the extra options you’ll require.
