Beyonce Knowles is far from being stick thin like many Hollywood female stars. As a matter of fact, Beyonce is perhaps the first one to admit that she’s curvy and proud of it, although that’s not to say that she doesn’t work hard to maintain her weight. After dissing the “gym look,” again a favorite with many stars, the singer is now speaking to Self magazine on what motivates her to keep going, and how reaching a goal is all mental.

First off, Beyonce says, working out should never be only about losing weight, since it also implies striving to be healthy – and this is precisely what she’s all about. Given that she’s also a touring artist, Beyonce has to work out to be physically able to take on the challenge of performing in sky-high heels while also singing. The motivation for all that can only come from within and, if it doesn’t, then it will not come at all, she believes.

“The truth is, it’s a lot of sacrifice. It’s more about your mental strength than physical strength. You have to push yourself. It doesn’t matter what trainer you have. And it doesn’t matter what program you’re on. You have to be healthy and make the right choices.” Beyonce tells the mag. Her motivation, for instance, is an Oscar, her ultimate goal in life.

According to the star, whenever she gets up on the treadmill for a jog, she is staring at a large framed picture of an Academy Award, which she requested to have to remind her where she wants to be. “I look at it, and I’m like OK, I have to stay in shape.” Beyonce reveals. Another thing that keeps her motivated is thinking about her tour clothes that have to fit just perfectly; should one be too tight and uncomfortable, it might ruin her entire performance.

Other than working out at the gym or at home (she does weight training and cardio), Beyonce also dances her way to a toner body, as many fans might have already anticipated. For her latest tour, for example, the singer was in the dancing studio for nine hours in a row, six days a week for almost three months, all the while wearing tottering heels. “When I come home and take them off, I’m like, ‘Oh, my God! I wish I could just chop my feet off!’” the star admits.
