The latest issue of Parade magazine brings a lengthy interview with Nicole Kidman, in which she’s dishing advice on how to stay healthy and slim all around the year. And, let’s face it, if there’s one celebrity who can preach about staying in excellent shape, that’s probably Nicole.

However, her interview doesn’t read like a typical one on the topic. She isn’t talking about her strenuous workout routine or give out specifics about her daily calorie intake and how she manages to keep it under control.

Instead, the actress is advising readers to take proper care of themselves by keeping active whichever way they can, eating healthy (ditto), and finding happiness. She for one likes the outdoors and gets exercise this way, by playing tennis or running, but she also goes to spin classes.

She doesn’t stick to a restrictive diet, but she strives to enjoy a little bit of everything because she doesn’t believe in depriving herself. She can’t touch strawberries though, because she’s allergic to them.

Nicole takes vitamin supplements in the winter to compensate for those times when she can’t get them from fruit and vegetables, and swears by one brand in particular: Women’s Ultivite from Swisse, of which she says it did wonders to her hair and nails.

If one were to describe Kidman’s approach to health and fitness, one could probably use the terms disciplined and laid-back, even though they’re apparently contradictory at first.

“If you’re tired, go easy. I believe that everyone needs a different set of tools, so to speak. I love to meditate and I try to always do something active each day,” she says, adding that she “take[s] each day as it comes.”

“I also believe love is incredibly important to maintaining a positive outlook. Love for your children, for your partner, being able to give it and receive it,” Nicole continues.
