Microsoft partnership won't mean exclusivity on Xbox One

State of Decay developer Undead Labs has confirmed that, after entering an exclusive partnership with Microsoft, its future titles will appear on the Xbox One but also on the PC, as the studio can still support other platforms.

Undead Labs released State of Decay onto the Xbox 360 last year and on the PC soon after, delivering a great open world zombie experience that added lots of RPG elements to the regular survival recipe.

A few weeks ago, the studio confirmed that it's now in a partnership with Microsoft, which will publish all of its future titles.

According to Undead's Jeff Strain, this partnership doesn't mean that all of the studio's titles will be available only on Xbox One, as they'll also appear on the PC.

"For us, when we look at the future of our games both on PC and on console, it's not just about digital distribution but the ability to have games that have a live service model behind them," Strain told Gamasutra.

"Games that are a continual experience rather than a throw-it-over-the-wall product. Whether you want to call that our MMO heritage, or just the kinds of games that people are playing and where the industry is going, this is what's exciting to us."

Strain emphasized that, thanks to the much more accessible Xbox Live online service that's possible on the Xbox One, there's a great amount of freedom, just like on the PC.

"So when we're looking at our next round and what we're doing in terms of development, we see the PC and the Xbox One as very peered platforms -- different playerbases and different content expectations -- but for the first time we can and want to be delivering strongly a shared, consistent experience across both platforms."

Undead Labs is reportedly working on an online version of State of Decay, but it's still keeping things a secret for now.
