Symantec issued another report that highlights the way businesses are getting used to working with the cloud and what problems they've encountered during the implementation process.

The survey, which included 5,300 organizations, small and large, from 38 countries of the globe, revealed that while managers are optimistic about moving to the new infrastructure, their IT staff is not prepared from a technical point to make the big move.

“These survey findings reinforce what our customers are telling us. Security is one of their top concerns when it comes moving to the cloud,” said the group president of Enterprise Products and Services at Symantec, Francis deSouza.

“To be confident in the cloud, IT organizations must take measures to ensure they have the same visibility and control of their information and applications whether they are in the cloud or residing on their own infrastructure."

As it turns out, company representatives are aware of the risks involved in migrating to a cloud environment.

“With the cloud, everything depends on how you secure your data. If there’s no security, there’s no point in moving to the cloud,” stated a company CTO.

Numbers show that only 25% of the IT department employees are ready to move to the new work environment and while only 20% of the firms have fully adopted the technology, almost three quarters of the respondents have adopted or are in the process of implementing some sort of related service.

It's not all that pink up there as many organizations expected to improve considerably their IT agility, but as the figures show, only 47% actually obtained the much desired results.

The report recommends businesses to take a proactive role in embracing the new technology. They should also analyze the situation carefully and set policies after all the risks have been assessed.

It's clear that it will take a while until these services are acquired successfully by all the companies that plan to take the big step, but until regulations are put in place and security measures have been properly implemented, firms should approach the issue with caution, replacing their current systems one at a time.
