Halo was his downfall

Politics can always be fun, especially around elections. The lengths to which candidates go in order to tarnish the reputation of their opponents and to win the elections is often mind boggling. We've seen candidates accusing each other of misconduct, corruption, or other deeds, but this recent report has really pushed it too far. In a flyer sent to Joystiq, a 56-year old candidate is accusing his opponent for the title of County Supervisor for Maricopa County of playing videogames.

The flyer is appealing, and compares the two men on different aspects of their life like background, ethics or accomplishments. But although all the sections of the flyer have interesting captions regarding the two candidates, the Accomplishments one is the center of attention. If the 56-year old man, Fulton Brock, can brag about his leadership skills and how he got the Maricopa County to the top of the best run counties in the United States, the other candidate, 24-year old Ed Hermes is showed to be a player of the hit Xbox shooter Halo.

“Skilled player of popular videogame Halo. Hermes was quoted in the ASU student newspaper as saying: 'I am addicted to Halo and play almost every night,'” read the caption for the Accomplishments section.

While this flyer is clearly part of Brock's campaign, you really can't help but wonder why he would choose to do such a thing. Let's not forget, according to recent studies, 65 % of families in the United States play computer or console games, and the average gamer is about 35 years old. So, this maneuver might back fire on the democrat candidate. But considering the vast difference in expertise and experience, the reasonable choice would still be Brock.
