KeyMe is a lock and key specialist, but is dabbling in 3D printing now

Normally, keys are made out of standard pieces by polishing the ridge into a pattern, or drilling holes depending on the type of lock.

Now, though, you don't have to take a trip to a lock and key maker to get what keys you need.

Instead, you can download the KeyMe iOS app and order a key made, and have it delivered almost immediately.

It's good if you need a key fast or don't have time to visit a hardware store. Unfortunately, it's also dangerous because anyone can order a key made for someone else's lock.

Sure, the KeyMe kiosks need fingerprint identification and the iOS app needs your e-mail, but it might still not be enough to preempt wrongdoings.

Anyway, Shapeways has agreed to 3D print the keys you order out of plastic or various metals, even gold. Thus, the prices range from $10 / €7.28 to $4,000 / €2,910.
