StartCom Multimedia Edition 5.0.6 Now Available

StartCom MultiMedia Edition 5.0.6 also known as Kessem, was released today, as announced by StartCom Ltd. This distribution is well known for its audio and video manipulation capabilities and the large number of delivered applications.

The latest open source technology is used by StartCom Linux and with its advanced audio and video manipulation capabilities, transforms the operating system in a digital multimedia studio.

Firefox is installed by default for your Internet browsing sessions, and Thunderbird for sending/receiving e-mails. Pidgin is the default multi-protocol instant messenger. Also OpenOffice suite is included for creating/editing text documents, spreadsheets etc. These applications transform StartCom MultiMedia Edition an excellent choice for home desktop computer. A built-in Web Server is offered with Kessem, so you don't need to install another one, unless you're not happy with the default.

The 5.0.6 version comes with a new design and with advanced 3D OpenGL driven effects that offer some real computing fun. A TV/Video/File streaming server and client make music and video sharing throughout the local network an easy deal. Outstanding applications like Audacity, Cinelerra, Rosegarden with many sound manipulating effect tools, synthesizers, samplers, sequencers are also included in StartCom MultiMedia Edition Kessem. It is also equipped with virtualization (XEN) and clustering capabilities (GFS). Wine is included if you need to run any Windows applications on your system.

If you are not happy with the packages included by default, you can install more by using the new Yum Extender, which brings an easy and fast way for updating and setting up fresh applications.

StartCom Linux operating systems are based on RedHat Enterprise and Fedore source code, modified to be more reliable, secure and efficient, so they can fit the tasks assigned to each flavor of StartCom Linux.

The distribution is available for both Intel i386 and AMD x86_64 architectures, as DVD ISO images.
