The Israelian company StartCom Ltd is proud to announce version 5.0.1 of their StartCom Enterprise Linux. Being based on Red Hat AS source code, StartCom Enterprise Linux delivers the latest technologies for any mission-critical server deployments. Version 5.0.1 comes as an update to the previous stable release and it provides virtualization support, so you can run multiple instances of operating systems on a single machine and the GFS (Global File System) which offers shared-storage file system for Linux computer clusters.

If you use StartCom Enterprise Linux as an advanced client workstation or as a powerful server platform, you should definitely upgrade to version 5.0.1 as it contains the following highlights:

Xen 3.1.0 - the free software virtual machine monitor for IA-32, x86-64, IA-64 and PowerPC architectures, brings improved performance and live-migration support for fully virtualized guests.

Powerful applications such as the OpenOffice.org suite, Eclipse Integrated Development Environment or the Mozilla Firefox web browser, provided in this release as possible options, makes StartCom Enterprise Linux AS-5.0.1 an attractive choice for client and development workstations. The VLC media player is available for installation from the Extras repositories of StartCom Enterprise Linux and offers extended features such as on-the-fly transcoding and VoD (Video on Demand). AS-5.0.1 also comes with an improved OpenGL 3D Destkop environment.

■ This version is powered by a new kernel which includes improved EXT3 filesystem for sizes of up to 16 TB and an updated CIFS filesystem. Other improvements include:

■ improved ACPI power management support
■ smartcard support for SSH
■ SMB update for improved interoperability
■ PAM/Kerberos and NSS-LDAP updates for improved integration in Active Directory environments.

StartCom Enterprise Linux AS-5.0.1 (codename Kishuf) is available for both i386 and x86_64 (AMD64/EM64T) architectures. You can download StartCom Enterprise Linux AS-5.0.1 right now from Softpedia!
