The development team at BioWare and publisher Electronic Arts announce that they are getting ready to launch the Galactic Strongholds expansion for Star Wars: The Old Republic during the summer months, depending on the status of the player.

The two companies explain that those who have a subscription to the title will be able to get early access to the content and all the new features on June 24 and they will also unlock a special Luxurious Nar Shaddaa Sky Palance with three rooms, which will cost 1.5 million credits for other gamers.

They will also be able to use special titles, like Galactic Stronghold and The Illustrious.

Star Wars: The Old Republic players who have preferred status early access to the Galactic Strongholds on July 29 and all those who are experiencing the MMO under a free-to-play model will be able to access it in August, although the date has not been revealed.

The description of the new content on the official site explains that, “Players can live in the heart of their faction’s capital world, live in style among the high-rollers of Nar Shaddaa, or even both by owning multiple Strongholds.”

BioWare will include hundreds of unique decorations based on the Star Wars universe in order to allow them to express their style and boost their Prestige scores.

All the Guilds in the MMO can also launch powerful new flagships where all members can teleport to meet, make plans and prepare for the new quests that The Old Republic will introduce.

The announcement of the launch dates for Galactic Strongholds is accompanied by an official video that shows gamers some of the new features they will be able to use in the expansion.

BioWare has also promised that, until the launch of the new content, it will introduce smaller updates for the MMO in order to improve some areas and add some new content.

The BioWare title had great expectations at launch, when it used a subscription model, but it failed to offer any challenge to the domination of World of Warcraft from Blizzard.

Since then, the company has delivered a lot of new content and streamlined the mechanics, while also allowing gamers to experience the MMO using a free-to-play business model.

It will be interesting to see how The Old Republic interacts with the new Star Wars titles that Electronic Arts plans to launch starting next year to accompany the new movies.
