Start Menu X is one of the apps that promise to bring back the Start button on Windows 8 and 8.1 and thanks to its freeware license, it’s now installed on plenty of computers across the world.

A new version officially released today comes with even more improvements for users of Microsoft’s modern operating system.

Even though no specifics have been provided on version 4.91.1, expect Start Menu X to bring performance and stability enhancements, as well as better compatibility with Windows 8.1 Preview.

The application remains free of charge and continues to be based on the same feature package, offering helpful options to skip the Start screen and boot directly to desktop, search from the Start Menu, and quickly access Control Panel items.
