The Windows Start menu remains a hot topic these days, not only because of rumors that Microsoft could bring this feature back in Windows 9, but also due to the fact that users are still trying to regain the full Windows 7 desktop functionality in modern Windows.

Start Menu X is one of the apps that could do that by bringing a third-party Start menu in Windows 8 and 8.1, and thanks to a new version released this morning, it should achieve its purpose with fewer bugs and improved performance.

Start Menu X 5.25 fixes some bugs in the installer, according to the official release notes provided for us by the developing team, so in case you had some problems when trying to deploy the app, just try this new version and everything should be fine.

The application continues to provide support for both Windows 8 and 8.1 and works with 32- and 64-bit versions of the modern operating systems alike.

As for the official Start menu, word is that Microsoft could launch it in April 2015 as part of the Windows 9 rollout, with a mockup presented by the company pointing to a mixed design with traditional elements and live tiles.

In the meantime, third-party apps are here to help, so just download Start Menu X 5.25 if you’d like the old Windows 7 desktop back.
