While Blizzard dropped the ball when it delayed Diablo III, as well as when they announced that StarCraft II wouldn't support LAN multiplayer, the developer does have a little something to recover some of their shattered honor. It has announced that the StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty will have an extra feature, in the form of a “mini-campaign.” But the interesting thing about this addition is that this small chunk of gameplay won't feature the Terrans, but will be centered on the Protoss.

The news was delivered over Blizzard’s official forum, where Stefanie Gwinner explained that “This part of the campaign mode is of course way shorter than the Terran part, but it is very fun to have a very different play style to add even more variety to the game. I am sure every Protoss fan will love this part of the Campaign!”

“That being said, the Protoss mini-campaign will not prepare you for the multiplayer as Protoss, you won't be using all units or getting to know buildings and upgrades,” she added. “In general, even for Terran, it is not the objective of the single player to show how to play the game effectively, it is to tell a story and do a lot of fun things, that would not be possible in multiplayer.”

While some StarCraft fans may complain about this being nothing more than a big tease, especially since it looks like we won't even have access to the entire tech tree, as long as the campaign does indeed deliver a worthy experience as far as storytelling and the StarCraft II universe go, nobody is going to start a boycott or anything.

“The Challenges, mini-missions, that ask you to complete a very specific task, are more suited to give players the opportunity to learn how to use the units and how to play the game. “ With this last hint revealed, it looks like this Protoss campaign will act a lot like a tutorial and/or intro to the Terran campaign, similar to what we saw in Warcraft III, with the Orcs opening up the Human campaign.
