Starcraft Ghost is one of those much anticipated titles that are bound to make huge sales upon release, due to its dependency to an established franchise. However, this didn’t stop Blizzard from stalling its development and eventually discontinuing work on the project until further notice. Recent twist of events suggests Blizzard
didn’t abandon the project all together, since they’ll soon release a prequel to its console game. Following the success of Cycle of Hatred, the World of Warcraft based novel, Keith R. A. DeCandido brings us yet another great story, this time placed in the Starcraft universe, Starcraft Ghost: Nova.
The game is going to be a first person shooter, introducing Nova, a Ghost. She is a powerful telepathic and telekinetic assassin with excellent martial arts and weapons skills, pretty much an extension of what Terran Ghosts were like in the original title. Within the novel’s pages we learn about the character’s backstory in order to understand how she reached the starting point of the game. We find out more details from Firing Squad’s chat with the author.
Predictably amusing, her name is Nova Terra, born of the Old Families on Tarsonis. Her parents managed to keep her inane mental capabilities a secret, from both the Confederacy and the child herself. But dark secrets always find a way to surface in the worst of times and Nova soon finds herself in the ill reputed part of Tarsonis City, being chased by a Wrangler. They are the secret spies of the Confederacy, special agents trained to seek out and capture telepaths, for integration into the Ghost program. The novel depicts Nova’s perilous journey in "the Gutter" and the Wrangler’s relentless tracking attempts.
The novel will be available this fall, from Pocket Books. Concerning fan feedback, Keith R. A. DeCandido is optimistic: "I think the fan response to Nova will be as good as it has been to Cycle of Hatred. The Blizzard universes have some wonderful characters -- it was a joy and a privilege to get to write the likes of Thrall, Aegwynn, Jaina, Nova, and Arcturus Mengsk. I think the books help the game come alive for people -- or, at least, I hope they do...."
