Blizzard Entertainment kicked off the closed beta for the upcoming Legacy of the Void expansions for Starcraft 2.

Starcraft 2 is the world's best real-time strategy game, mixing physically demanding game control with a constant need to be aware of what's going on and adapt to what your opponent is doing, in addition to knowing the tactical ins and outs of the maps and units.

The developer started the multiplayer test of the upcoming expansion, which means that, if you're one of the people looking to get in, you would do well to check if you are among the lucky few to get access.

However, the developer has mentioned that, at the start of the beta test, Battle.net accounts will be directly flagged for access, which means that you'll find out whether you are eligible for access not by checking your email for an invite, but by checking out if the "Beta: Legacy of the Void" option is enabled under the Region / Account dropdown menu, in Starcraft 2's Battle.net Launcher tab.

Beta keys will also be sent later in the cycle, but for the time being, only a select few will be able to get their hands on Starcraft 2's final expansion. Blizzard has been pretty vague when it comes to who gets access to the betas, revealing that it is a combination of system specs, recent activity and luck.

A lot of new stuff to play around with

Blizzard has already unveiled all the magic in the final chapter of the Starcraft 2 saga, namely the new units that the three playable races will be getting and the changes to the old ones, but it also kept an ace up its sleeve.

The company has revealed that, in addition to all the previously announced units and gameplay tweaks, the Protoss race will also be getting an extra brand new unit, the Adept, in addition to the already announced Disruptor.

The Adept is a core gateway unit with a ranged area-of-effect attack that can only target ground units, normal movement speed, and a unique ability that allows it to send out an invulnerable mirror image of itself and then teleport to its location after a set interval.

Furthermore, the Terran is getting the Cyclone, a ranged unit able to attack air, the Zerg is getting the Ravager, a morph of the roach, and the fabled Lurker, morphing off of the Hydralisk.

Players will be able to test out the new units and changes coming to the Zerg, Terran and Protoss factions on three new maps, the Ruins of Seras, Lerilak Crest, and Orbital Shipyard.

You can read the entire list of changes and additions to the game in the official patch notes.
